Getting enough sleep is crucial for your health and wellbeing. On a physical level, rest is important to keep your heart and other organs functioning correctly, and mentally, sleep regulates the chemicals in your brain. Good sleep is beneficial for our mental health to reduce anxiety and depression. Doing a short meditation before bed regulates your nervous system to switch you from “flight or fight” (sympathetic nervous system), and into a state of “rest and digest” (parasympathetic nervous system) where you can fall asleep with ease.
